Christy Savage Biography

I've been a fine artist for over 30 years, with an focus on painting, mostly in watercolor and acrylic.

I am profoundly inspired by the juxtaposition between classic beauty and extreme brutality, as found in history, art and literature. Fascinated by murder, monsters and the macabre, I'm driven to create out of helplessness in the face of real life horror. My art embraces and reflects the darkness of the human soul, heavily influenced by mythology, classic works, horror comics, film, and true crime.

We all struggle to find our voice, develop our style and learn how to use art for good in our community. Those of us driven to create dark and disturbing art have an added struggle to share our talent in a positive way while walking a fine line between respect and exploitation. I believe in the importance of art as a healthy outlet for morbid fantasies and unpleasant emotions.

My work is brutal and not for everyone, but shocking art can raise awareness in a society grown numb to violence.
