Indre Noctum Biography

Sweden, born 1989

Indre Noctum was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, in 1989 and is currently based in Sweden.

Possessing a melancholic nature, Indre developed a fascination with dark, atmospheric, philosophical, and macabre themes from a very young age.

She spent significant time visiting old and abandoned graveyards and woods and developed an interest in Gothic architecture, dark literature, macabre art, and specific music genres, mainly those in the dark and underground scene. These influences have profoundly shaped her sense of beauty and artistic style, leading her to pursue a path as an artist with a penchant for dark aesthetics.

In 2009, Indre began studying Decorative Glass Art at Kaunas College, earning her Professional bachelor’s degree in arts, Qualification of Master’s in 2012. That same year, after graduation, she decided to leave her homeland and emigrated to the United Kingdom.

This decision resulted in a significant gap in her artistic career.

After a decade-long absence from the art world, Indre returned to her artistic passion and began creating again.

She now introduces herself by her first name, Indre, along with her pseudonym, Noctum, symbolizing her love for the night and all the subjects she associates with it.

Her primary medium is glass, though she also incorporates other materials, such as metal. Self-taught in the art of crafting filigree ornaments, she enriches her glasswork with intricate adornments. The artist continues to develop her skills by learning new artistic glass techniques, such as traditional kiln-fired glass painting and gilding, and she experiments with combining glass with other materials.

Indre does not shy away from the topic of death; instead, she explores it through a lens that finds aesthetic beauty in this inevitable part of life, often incorporating ethereal, mystical, and unearthly atmospheres into her work. The symbolic visuals in her creations invite viewers to engage in interpretation and philosophical reflection.
