Australia - Born 1976
Kim Loudon grew up in a small country town in far north Queensland.
She currently lives in Inverell NSW Australia.
She moved to Brisbane at the age of 17 to study graphic design. After completing her study, she found design no longer excited her.
Kim is now a Modern Artist who has been painting for over 25 years. She has steadily developed and discovered her own unique style. She is self-taught. Kim is influenced by her travels, found objects, people who inspire, her childhood, visions from dreams and also real-life dramas and relationships. She works in acrylic/mixed media and is always ready to experiment with alternate ideas and textures. Kim’s work has developed over the years into a dark and multi-textured world. For her, this world has become an obsession for her to get lost in. The themes in her work have evolved, from simple but paralysing nightmares to a mind blitz of otherworldly forms and primal emotions. Kim suffered from Night Terrors several times a week over many years. She encountered many dark figures and strange characters there. At its peak the fear was so crippling she never wanted to sleep again.
In her Night Terror period, Kim started her creative journey with simple sketches, writing down her ideas. She then spent five years painting solidly, passionately, channelling demons only she had seen. She completed 32 paintings in that time. Kim then teamed up with talented writer Dominic Kirwan to create a book, The Dread of Night. This book has become one of her most important achievements. She is equally terrified and most excited to present her artwork.
Kim has recurring characters that feature throughout her series. They evolved as she forged onwards, her darkly vibrant yet ominous imagery has progressed into a thematic universe teeming with grotesquery and exquisite bursts of light and wonder. When viewing her work one becomes a dreamer, as if looking through a keyhole into another dimension of multi layered meaning, engaging narrative, and infinite intrigue.
Kim’s ultimate aim is to be able to set a mood in a room. If she can do that she’s accomplished her goal.
