Itadakimassacre Biography

Canada, born 1999

The name Itadakimassacre (or TDMSK) came from a conversation I had with my friend about eating a lot of food. I thought it sounded cool so it stuck. “Itadakimasu” is a Japanese phrase said before a meal that shows gratitude for everyone and everything involved in making the food. I added the word massacre to the end. There really isn’t much else to it. Also, it’s really fun to say.
I am an illustrator and designer who likes to reflect on the horrors we live with. My illustrations are meant to provoke thoughts and create connections through bold expression. This is done through the dark themes my art explores in combination with harsh linework and stark contrast that goes against perfection. My main medium is the cheapest ballpoint pen at the dollar store, but I may also use India ink, acrylic, and graphite. Additionally, I use my background in design and editing to enhance the harshness. My experience with mental health and medical challenges influence a lot of my drawings. Art has always been a cathartic means of expression and storytelling since I was a child. Other inspirations for my art include popular media and artists such as Junji Ito and Jean-Michel Basquiat. My goal in life is to do things that are creative and meaningful, which I hope to achieve through art.
Other things about me: my favourite colour is pink, I’m learning bass guitar, and I love puns.
