France, born 1959
The artist Olivier de Sagazan is originally from the Congo, but now lives in France. For over 20 years he has developed a hybrid career that includes painting, photography, sculpture and performance. In his series of performances Transfiguration, which begins in 2001, Sagazan molded layers of clay and paint on her face and body to transform, disfigure and eliminate his original figure, revealing a animalistic human who tries to break away from the physical world. With disquieting and deeply movements, this new body of work break down the barriers between the physical, intellectual, spiritual and animalistic senses.
Olivier de Sagazan has exhibited extensively in Europe, Canada, Brazil, Korea, China, Quebec, India, etc, thanks to art galleries, museums and film festivals. Certainly this is a international artist with cult followers and critical acclaim for his expressive and inimitable style. Sagazan also appears in the non-verbal film Samsara, the sequel to Baraka, directed by Ron Fricke.
