This image is simply a portrait of Christ. He wares his iconic crown of thorns with what looks like a sense of pride even though the thorns are meant to discourage. Jesus is not a normal king and even though it is said by the high priest and the Sanhedrin that he was the king of the Jews. That was an understatement, no, he is king over all kings. He has the power to forgive sin of any who come to him, gentile or Jew, man or woman, man or child. He is the one above all. He is the one who even Kings of the mortal realm bow down to and do not aim to offend. He is Jesus’ lord over all, Jesus King of kings.
