Commissioned for the movie Magnum Opus starring Adam Harrington and Pej Vahdat. It was created with all traditional materials.
Created for the movie Magnum Opus which is the story of an ex-marine turned artist and cryptographer. I was tasked with making his series.
The final work of the series and the culminating oilgraph created by the main character Daniel played by Adam J. Harrington The image is of the character Monica Davenport played by the wonderful Louise Griffiths. In the movie, Daniel has already created the other eight works and is searching for the image that will finish the series and when Monica enters his life, she provides the inspiration. In the film he finishes the piece in one magical night but in reality a piece like this takes at least a week. And that’s under pressure. I got it done in time and its reveal in the movie is probably my favorite shot. Hidden in the piece are elements of all the previous eight pieces.
In reading the script I was confused as to how the main character’s art technique was exactly like mine and the director’s response (who was a friend and collector of mine) said, “Well, we based the main character on you.”
The final shot presented here is Adam “painting” the piece in the film.
