Artwork description
Samson takes his revenge on the enemies who captured him and carved out his eyes ultimately killing them and himself. I wanted to depict the panic in men’s eyes as they realize what he is about to do and try desperately to stop him.
To create the scene I had to craft the pillars from abandoned props and paint in the texture. A make up artist was hired to blank out his eyes. During the shooting however one of the pillars almost took out a friend’s car.
The images were printed traditionally in the darkroom and adhered to a custom made panel before the final “Oilgraph” technique was applied. It’s a term I coined for the technique which creates a hybrid of traditional film photography, oil paint and other media.
