‘Plastic Beach’ is a piece that goes with a larger series of ‘May This Mess Be Blessed’ which is about today’s consumption culture and our current and ongoing climate crisis.
The woman in the painting was inspired from a series of old photographs taken of hysterical psychiatric patients in the early 1900’s. She is standing in a beach and appears to be in total shock at the sight of plastic and trash.
