In scholarly and literary writings, various ethical arguments have been put forth in defense of antinatalism, probably the most prominent of which is the asymmetry argument, put forward by Benatar.
The painting is original and is a metaphor for the asymmetry (not asymmetry argument itself) between the pain and pleasure. Sensationally pain is far stronger or heavier than pleasure so the injured pigeon, though standing on the empty pan and even bleeding, is heavier than the other pigeon standing on the pan full of (golden) seeds, enjoying them.
