In this painting, I revisit ancient mythology to reimagine the centaurs as the eternal sentinels of their homeland. My goal was to depict Thessaly as a distant, almost sacred landscape, while bringing the raw intensity of the battle to the forefront through the figure of a female centaur in mid-gallop.
I have portrayed my muse, Lali, as a fierce archer at the precise second before releasing her arrow. I was fascinated by the visual and physical contrast between her slender, muscular human torso—full of grace and precision, and the immense, heavy power of her equine half. In this scene, her complete nudity serves a specific purpose: it is a layer of vulnerability that barely manages to soften the contained violence of the moment. She is not just a creature of myth; she is a warrior defined by a lethal elegance and a beauty that is as wild as the land she defends.
