In this piece, I transport the viewer to the vertiginous heights of Notre Dame de Paris. I have reimagined my muse, Lali, as a living gargoyle, a creature carved from ancient stone but pulsing with a hidden, restless heat.
I wanted to explore the boundaries between the architectural and the carnal. Her body, though seemingly made of cold rock, is presented in a bold, unapologetic posture that offers her breasts and sex to the gaze of the spectator. There is a disturbing eroticism in this stillness; she is a sentinel of stone that retains an undeniable, raw sensuality.
As she crouches above the city, wearing a mask of horns and thorns, a question lingers in the air: Is she merely a statue, or is the stone about to crack? I painted her at the precise moment of tension, where the boundary between myth and reality dissolves. ‘Lali Gorgone’ is an invitation to wonder if this guardian is about to come to life and transform into the ultimate sexual predator. It is a tribute to the power of the feminine form, capable of commanding respect and desire even from the heights of a cathedral’s ledge.
