Melnea Cass is the street in Boston where throughout my life I have witnessed different phases of the state of the homeless and addicted. As a child, I recall they would sell roses and wash your car windows. There were times when tents lined the street, people shooting up visibly in the arms, neck, falling over, helping one another with a bike or wheelchair. Sometimes decades they were dirty, unkempt and more recently they are well clothed with coats and shoes. A personal and public war playing out before us.
