Twenty five years ago my daughters inspired me to create the very first “mirror-mask” pop-up book, IF I WERE A HALLOWEEN MONSTER, published by Little, Brown & Company in 1999. To my knowledge, there hasn’t been another “mirror-mask” book published in the past 25 years so my concept is a one-of-a-kind original. To enjoy the book, the reader places the cover over his/her face and looks into a mirror through the peep holes. As the pages are turned, new Halloween masks pop up and parts of the rhyming text are read in reverse mirror writing. The use of onomatopoeia scattered throughout the text encourages imaginative play. Over 60K copies were printed and a few are still available online (ISBN: 0-316-57778-2).
