Artwork description

The painting represents the face of Medusa emerging from the waters. The myth is represented in the role of the melancholic Ophelia, a character from Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet. Driven by despair at Hamlet’s refusal, she lets herself drown in the waters of a pond. The artwork is part of the new “Facescapes” collection. Facescapes are studies about symbol, myth and archetype through nature’s morphology as expressions of biophilia. These faces emerge from the landscape like islands and merge with it through tectonic forms and the landscape’s morphology. The figures represented fall somewhere between physics and metaphysics, according to Aristotle’s philosophy which they are divided into representation of nature (physics) and its cognitive investigation (meta-physics).
